Problem

Cisco ASA presents the following error while trying to connect to the device via SSH:

Fail to establish SSH session because RSA host key retrieval failed.

Reason

The reason for this message is because there is no RSA key pair to present to users connecting via SSH.

Solution

Generate an RSA key pair for the ASA using the following command:

Note: Be sure to specify the required key size for your organisation.

crypto key generate rsa modulus 2048
